I have recently been messing around with my HV30, adding a new Rode Video mic, and gonna get a Raynox W/A lense + Lense hood. Some tests have led me to wanting to do slow motion video. After various youtube-ing sessions, I found a few tutorials, all complex require-ring several renders and other software I couldnt be botherd downloading.
So I tried using one piece of software: Adobe After Effects, and succeded!
For an example of whats possible with this technique, look at the video:
Guide (For Canon HV Camcorders, should be possible for other makes if they can record interlaced 50/60 fps (1080i))
Record your footage in 50i mode (60i mode for NTSC HV’s)
Capture your footage via firewire using HDVSplit (Great freeware to capture HDV via Firewire)
Import your captured footage into After Effects
Right click on the imported footage and select ‘Interpret Footage’ -> ‘Main’
Find the framrate option and select ‘Conform to frame rate:’ and enter in either 12.5 for halfspeed or 6.25 for quarter speed (NTSC: enter either 15 for half speed or 7.5 for quarter speed)
Press OK
Create a new comp, exact same as your footage (Drag the footage to the comp button at the bottom)
Select the comp and right click -> Composition Settings
Change the frame rate to 25 frames per second (30 for NTSC)
Press ok
Make sure to enable frame blending on your comp (Right click -> Enable Frame Blending) and set the footage layer to use Pixel Motion (Right clik on the footage -> Frame Blending -> Pixel Motion)
This will then create the frames needed to provide smooth motion, not the jittery image that you would get if you slowed it down by stretching the video.
Enjoy! + Comment =)
Thanks, And im making a new video even slower than the trampoline one soon! so stay tuned!
As I am doing NCEA Level 3 Media Studies next year, and did it in level 1 I know how the work can quickly pile up and you find yourself facing the deadline. This year, I plan to be much more organised. Mainly due to the fact that I want this years project to be bigger and better than last years. See Meteor (My last years media project).
Next years project, from what ive heard is to be done in the Documentary style, between 5 and 8 minutes long and ‘captivate’ the audience. With a few VFX and good storyline, shouldnt be too hard .
Now, For my ideas:
I have thought about redoing a similar disaster genred Meteor documentary. I think this would be pretty interesting, street view as descruction rains from above, People running everywhere and best of all, Chaos. This could follow a few ‘groups’ of people. Done in the style of something like Cloverfield, but with smaller groups etc.
Or do something completly different, still thinking on any other ideas.
I will hopefully get a solid idea soon, so then I can realize some concepts and that. Hopefully within the next few weeks!
Messing with my Honda XR250 this weekendm and created a quick compilation of some riding in my garden. Looking at some old motorbike videos on my youtube profile, my garden has changed so much. Enjoy!
Hey, No updates for a while, just had my Mock Exams, and got my finals in a few weeks.
Ive been very busy by study, although I am in the process of creating a dirtbike track in my garden. A few jumps and that. Will post pictures up when its done.
I am planning a new effect soon, (Probably after my exams ~4 weeks) and maybe even a short film. Updates soon!
As you may know, I do media studies at school. Its come to the time where our group has to create a short film/trailer.
We decided to create a trailer.
It will be based on the disaster genre, feature some cool VFX and editing and around 2-3-4mins long.
